Lady Vol Golf Ties For Ninth After Day One
March 06, 2015 | Women's Golf
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- The #11 Tennessee women's golf team finished in a three-way tie for ninth place on day one of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club (par 71, 6,142 yards).
"Today was a really tough day in challenging conditions," head coach Judi Pavon said. "We started on some hard holes and didn't handle them well, but then played fairly steady from there on out. Anna [Newell] played a great round today especially considering the weather. We are looking forward to a nicer day tomorrow and being able to have more low scores."
Tennessee sits in ninth of 17 teams with a team score of 300. Freshman Anna Newell led the team shooting one-under 70. Her low score helped to boost the Lady Vols and is the second best score out of all participants.
Emmie Pietila shot a round of 75 (+4) to tie in 35th place. AJ Newell and Lucia Polo shot rounds of 77 and 78, respectively. Although her score did not count for the round, Hannah Pietila finished the first round with an 82.
The Lady Vols will commence the second round tomorrow at 10:10 a.m. ET.
