SDSU Farms Invitational
Champs: UT Takes SDSU Farms Invite Title
March 25, 2015 | Women's Golf
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif.-- The No. 11 Lady Vol golf team claimed its second team title of the spring season with a 4-1 match-play win over Colorado in the championship round at the SDSU Farms Invite at The Farms Golf Club (par 72, 6,237 yards) Wednesday. Tennessee finished the tournament with an undefeated mark at 4-0.
"I'm really proud of the way our team competed this week," Head Coach Judi Pavon said. "This is a different format than we usually play, and you have to be tough. We only lost two matches all week and played really solid against some good teams."
Two Lady Vols--Anna Newell and Lucia Polo--were victorious in each of their four matches over the three-day stretch.
Sophomore Lucia Polo notched her championship round win by defeating Colorado's Alexis Keating with a final of two and one. She never trailed and tallied three birdies on the day.
Freshman Anna Newell dominated her match against Natalie Vivaldi, winning by a score of six and five. She birdied twice in her wire-to-wire win.
Sophomore Hannah Pietila completed her championship round with a win over Brittany Fan by a score of five and four. She scored par on 13 of the 14 holes played, bogeying only on the par four sixth.
The lone senior in the championship round for Tennessee, A.J. Newell finished all square with Esther Lee.
Sophomore Emmie Pietila finished her round all square with Colorado's Jamie Oleksiew. She tallied five birdies on the day. Oleksiew's birdie on the final hole tied the match.
The Lady Vols will return to the links on April 4-6 as they head to Oxford, Mississippi, to compete in the Rebel Intercollegiate Tournament, a 54-hole competition that contains five top 40 teams in the field.
