Rowing Places Two in Top Five

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The Tennessee rowing team finished their fall season by competing at Head of the Hooch on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga on Saturday.
Tennessee had six boats compete across three races. The first race to take to the 3.1 mile course was the women’s championship 8+ which saw Tennessee place fourth and 10th. The Volunteers top boat with Nikole Chojnacky at the bow finished in 16:35.4, just 16 seconds off the pace of Clemson which earned first place. Tennessee was 12 seconds ahead of fifth place Oklahoma. The second squad competing in the championship 8+ placed tenth out of 22 as they finished in 17:08.4.
The Volunteers also had two boats competing in the Championship 4+ races. UT finished in fifth and 12th place with times of 17:56.1 and 18:26.2. Newcomer Jesselyn Voysey was at the bow of the boat for the fifth place squad. Oklahoma won the event with a time of 16:56.0 outpacing the field. Miami finished second out of the 26 teams entered in the event with a time of 17:41.0.
Tennessee had two novice squads compete in the College & Club Novice 8+. For many of the girls, it was only their second time competing in a rowing event after last weekend’s Secret City Head Race. The first team across for the Volunteers took 14th place with a time of 19:32.7. The second squad took 33 out of the 45 teams with a time of 21:15.8.
The Head of the Hooch concludes the fall season for the Volunteers. Tennessee will open up the spring season on February 19th and 20th at Central Florida.
