POSTGAME NOTES
Tennessee Tidbits
- Tennessee defeated Kentucky, 52-21, at Commonwealth Stadium.
- UT's 52 points scored vs. the Wildcats are the most by the Vols in SEC play since Nov. 13, 2010 vs. Ole Miss (W, 52-14).
- With the win, Tennessee improves to a 37-14-3 all-time record against the Wildcats in Lexington, Ky.
- The Volunteers now lead the all-time series 78-24-9, with wins in 30 of the last 31 meetings with Kentucky. Tennessee's 78 wins vs. UK are the most against any opponent.
Tennessee Captains
- Serving as captains for Tennessee this evening were Josh Smith, Brian Randolph and Joshua Dobbs.
- Tennessee won the toss and deferred to the second half. Kentucky elected to receive upon kickoff in the first half.
The Dobbs Effect
- QB Joshua Dobbs finished the Kentucky game 16-of-26 yards passing for 233 yards and two touchdowns.
- Dobbs also ran for 51 yards on seven carries with two rushing touchdowns.
- With two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns vs. Kentucky, Dobbs recorded multiple passing and rushing TDs in a game for the third time in his career (also vs. Georgia 10/10/15 and vs. South Carolina on 11/1/14).
- In his career vs. Kentucky, Dobbs is now 3-0 with 729 yards passing and 11 touchdowns.
Offensive Highlights
- Alvin Kamara led the team in rushing with four attempts for 70 yards, including a big 63-yard rush in the second quarter.
- With two touchdowns vs. the Wildcats, Jalen Hurd recorded his fifth career multi-TD game.
- Malone led UT with four catches for 103 yards and one touchdown, a new career high for the sophomore wide receiver.
- Joshua Dobbs connected with TE Ethan Wolf to convert a 16-yard, 4th-and-8 pass for a first down into Kentucky territory in the first quarter.
- On a 28-yard carry in the first quarter, Joshua Dobbs ran for a touchdown to put the Vols on the board. It marked Dobbs' 15th-career rushing touchdown, breaking a tie with Heath Shuler (1991-93) for third-most all-time at Tennessee.
- Dobbs completed a 75-yard touchdown pass to Josh Malone in the second quarter, marking the longest pass of Dobbs' career and the longest reception of Malone's career.
- The 75-yard touchdown reception was also the longest by the Volunteers since an 81-yard pass by Tyler Bray to Justin Hunter vs. Montana (Sept. 3, 2011).
- With less than two minutes remaining in the half, Alvin Kamara rushed for 63 yards to the UK one-yard line, ultimately leading to a one-yard touchdown run for Joshua Dobbs.
- To open the second half, Dobbs found Jalen Hurd for a 37-yard pass completion and touchdown, marking Hurd's fourth career TD reception.
- Freshman QB Quinten Dormady entered the game in the fourth quarter, his first action since the Western Carolina game in Knoxville, Tenn. (9/19/15).
Defensively Speaking
- With a two pass breakups vs. Kentucky, Cameron Sutton has 30 career passes defended for UT. He moves past Deon Grant (28) and now ties Terry Fair for seventh on Tennessee's all-time list.
- Tennessee's defense held Kentucky to 2-of-13 on third down conversions.
- Brian Randolph led UT's defense with 10 total tackles (seven solo).
- Corey Vereen finished the game with four total tackles (three solo), one QB hurry and a team-leading two tackles for a loss of yardage against Kentucky.
- Sophomore Derek Barnett recorded two sacks vs. QB Patrick Towles, bringing his season total to five.
- Darrin Kirkland Jr. intercepted Kentucky QB Patrick Towles' pass and returned it 26 yards to the four yard line, leading to a Jalen Hurd touchdown. With the interception return, the Vols scored touchdowns on back-to-back touches vs. UK in the third quarter.
- Max Arnold forced and recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter, giving UT the ball at the UK 13-yard line.
Special Teams
- In the third quarter, Evan Berry ran a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, his third of the season and the fifth 100-yard touchdown in Tennessee history (last, L. Scott in 1999). By doing so, Berry also tied Willie Gault (1980) for most kickoff returns for a TD in a single season.
- On the very next possession, Cameron Sutton ran a punt return back for an 84-yard touchdown, marking the second time this season for the Vols to score touchdowns on kickoff returns and punt returns in the same game. Prior to this season, the last time UT accomplished the feat was 1950.
- Trevor Daniel's first punt of the day went 28 yards and was caught at the 10-yard line. On the year, Daniel has landed 14 of his 39 punts inside the 20-yard line.
- Daniel punted twice vs. Kentucky for an average of 35.5 yards.
- Kicker Aaron Medley made a 44-yard field goal in the second quarter. He is now 10-for-18 this season and 3-for-5 on kicks between 20-29 yards.
- Medley made his seven PATs vs. the `Cats and is now a perfect 37-of-37 on the year for 64 points.
Upon Further Review
- Originally ruled a nine-yard catch and first down by UT's Alvin Kamara, the ruling on the field was confirmed.
- Ruled a Kentucky touchdown in the second quarter, the ruling on the field was reversed. UK got the ball at the one-yard line for 4th-and-goal.
- Originally ruled a rush for 63 yards and down at the one-yard line, the ruling was confirmed the UT's Kamara was down before reaching the endzone.
- Ruled targeting by Vols' DB Emmanuel Moseley in the third quarter, the call was upheld.
