Vols Conclude Day One Tied for 7th Place

BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- The Tennessee women's golf team finished round one of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in a three-way tie for seventh place after recording a round of 281. Sophomore Anna Newell led the Vols with a score of 68.
"We played well today, seven-under par is never anything to be unhappy about," commented head coach Judi Pavon after the conclusion of round one. "Anna had a really good round. She had a good stretch of birdies that we really needed," added Pavon.
Newell shot six birdies, five of which were carded on the back nine. She concluded the day in a tie for eighth place.
Lucia Polo tied for 18th place after shooting 69 (-3). Emmie Pietila shot a 70 and tied for 25th place.
"Lucia had a bogey-free round today which was great and Emmie played very solid," mentioned Pavon. She also commented on Hannah Pietila's performance as an individual stating, "Hannah also had a great round."

Blakesly Warren rounded out scoring for the Vols with a round of 74. Shannon Brooks finished the day with a 75 (+3).
No. 52 Michigan and No. 60 San Jose State both recorded 23 birdies and an eagle in the round, tying for the lead. They finished day one 13-under. No. 24 Missouri finished in third place with a team score of 277. My Leander of San Jose State led the field with a round of 65 (-7).
