Volleyball Loses 3-1 at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Tennessee Volunteers lost 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-13, 25-21) to Ole Miss on the road Friday night at Gillom Sports Center.
The Vols (18-6, 4-5 SEC) took the second set, but Ole Miss (18-5, 4-4) reclaimed momentum in the third set and won a close fourth set with the home crowd backing them.
Junior Bri Holmes paced the Vols' offense with 14 kills, the ninth time she has led Tennessee this season. Sophomore Kanisha Jimenez had six kills, seven digs and five blocks.
Tennessee wraps up the road weekend with a Sunday match at Mississippi State. It begins at 1 p.m. and will be televised on the SEC Network.
The fourth set came down to the wire as the Vols tried to push the match into a deciding fifth set for a second match in a row, having beaten South Carolina 3-2 on Sunday.
With a three-point run, Tennessee took a 19-18 lead late in the fourth on a kill by Holmes followed by an attack error by Ole Miss' Lexi Thompson. The Vols tied the match a final time on a Rebel serve into the net at 20-20.
Ole Miss won the next four points to set up match point, converting two points later to end the match at 25-21.
Ole Miss had a .248 hitting percentage in the match while Tennessee hit .135, including -.033 in the fourth set. The Rebels also out-dug Tennessee (54 to 45) and had more blocks (13.0 to 8.5).
To start the match, Tennessee led early, but Ole Miss made its move midway through the first set. With a 5-0 run, the Rebels moved from two points behind to leading 19-16 on a kill by Nakeyta Clair. Erica Treiber hit an ace to close the lead to 23-21 but Ole Miss won the last two points to take the opening set, 25-21.
The Vols led much of the second set. Ole Miss came back to tie the set at 17-17 but then committed a pair of attack errors to give Tennessee the lead for good at 19-17. Kills by Kanisha Jimenez and Raina Hembry moved the Vols to set point at 24-21. Kendra Turner put an attack deep in the court to finish the set, 25-21. Tennessee has won the second set in 22 of 24 matches this season.
Coming out of the break, Ole Miss took a 10-5 lead to start the third set and continued to pull away. The Rebels led by as many as 11 points, eventually taking the set 25-13. Ole Miss hit .344 for the set, while Tennessee's hit percentage was just .111.
