Tennessee Rowing Unveils 2015 Schedule

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee rowing head coach Lisa Glenn released UT's 2015 schedule on Wednesday. The 2015 season marks the 20th year of rowing at Tennessee. UT has a rich rowing history with two Conference USA Championships, eight NCAA tournament appearances, one US Rowing All-American, 11 CRCA Pocock All-Americans, 41 CRCA first and second team accolades and 51 national scholar athletes.
Tennessee opens the 2015 season with two days of exhibition races against the University of Central Florida and the University of Michigan from February 14-15 in Orlando, Fla. This marks the second season in a row Tennessee will travel to Florida to race UCF and Michigan.
The following weekend, the Big Orange will race in a head-to-head exhibition race with the Tar Heels of North Carolina on Feb. 28 on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge. The Lady Volunteers will conclude their exhibition stint with a head-to-head meeting with Duke University on March 8 also in Oak Ridge.
To begin official competition, Tennessee will continue to race close to home and compete in the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite from March 14-15 in Oak Ridge. During the 2014 ORCI, the Big Orange brought home the gold medal in four out of their 10 races and finished in the top two in nine.
On March 21, the Lady Vols will race head-to-head against Minnesota in Oak Ridge. Next up for Tennessee will be a trip to San Diego, Calif. for the San Diego Crew Classic from March 28-29. This will be the Lady Vols' fifth appearance in the San Diego Crew Classic, with the last trip coming in 2012 when the Lady Vols finished in the top-five in all three races they competed.
After three weeks away from competition to concentrate on training, Tennessee will travel to Clemson, South Carolina where the team will race for the third year in the row in the Clemson Invitational from April 18-19. Last season the Lady Vols brought home one bronze medal in the 2V8+.
To conclude the regular-season, UT will stay close to home and race Central Florida and Iowa on May 2 on Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge.
For the fifth straight year, Tennessee Rowing will host its conference championships. This year as members of the Big 12 Conference,UT will welcome schools to Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge from May 16-17. In 2010, the Lady Vols captured the first-ever Conference USA Rowing title at the Aramark Sprints. Last season, the Orange and White fell to Oklahoma at the Conference USA Championship by a team total of four points.
The 2015 Big 12 Rowing Championship will mark the fourth season the event has been recognized as a fully-supported conference championship. Tennessee, Alabama and Old Dominion will join Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia in the 2015 event as affiliate members competing for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Rowing Championship.
The 2015 NCAA Rowing Championships will be held in Sacramento, Calif. from May 29-31.
