FOR STARTERS
- Tennessee's starters: guard Josh Richardson, guard Kevin Punter, forward Armani Moore, forward Willie Carmichael, forward Derek Reese.
- It was Reese's third start of the season and first since Nov. 27 against Santa Clara. This is the second time coach Donnie Tyndall has used this lineup; the last time for the Santa Clara game.
- Ian Chiles, who had not played since the Vols' season opener on Nov. 14, started the second half for the Vols. He made his first shot.
- First basket: Willie Carmichael III with a layup in the Vols' first possession.
- First sub in: Devon Baulkman and Tariq Owens
WITH A WIN...
- Preserves the Vols' unblemished home record this season (4-0).
- Makes Tennessee 53-2 all-time against current members of the Ohio Valley Conference.
- Gives Donnie Tyndall an 80-43 head coaching record against OVC teams, including a 12-3 record vs. Tennessee Tech.
- Makes Tyndall 29-16 as a Division I head coach against teams from the state of Tennessee.
DOUBLE DIGITS
- Senior Josh Richardson again led the Vols with 19 points, the eighth time he has scored at least 15 points this season.
- Devon Baulkman finished with 10 points, matching his career best that he posted on Wednesday against NC State.
- Of the 10 Vols who played, eight scored.
FOUL FREE
- The Vols entered the game ranked third in the nation in fouls committed per game with an average of 24.6, but did not pick up a foul for the first 11:49 minutes of Friday's game.
- Freshman Willie Carmichael III was whistled for an illegal screen with 8:11 on the clock.
- The Vols had five personal fouls at halftime and nine for the game.
- By comparison, the Vols were called for 28 fouls on Wednesday at NC State, with Richardson and Punter both fouling out.
STEAL-O-MATIC
- Richardson led the Vols with four steals.
- It marked the third time in four games that Richardson has had at least three steals, including a career-best six against Butler (12/14/14).
- The Tennessee defense forced 16 turnovers while committing 11.
FIRST HALF NOTES
- Tennessee Tech led 32-26 at the half, led by perfect shooting from guard Torrance Rowe. The lefty shot 4-for-4 from 3-point range and had 12 points.
- TTU shot 13 of 23 from the field (56.5 percent) compared to the Vols' 10 of 29 (34.5 percent).
- Josh Richardson led the Vols with eight points, and Devon Baulkman made a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six.
UP NEXT: MERCER
- The Vols host Mercer Monday, Dec. 22, at at 7 p.m. ET (SEC Network).
- The Bears are off to a 5-4 start this season under veteran head coach Bob Hoffman.
- Tennessee ended Mercer's season by knocking the Bears out of last year's NCAA Tournament in Raleigh, N.C.
- But one year earlier, Mercer ended Tennessee's 2012-13 season by handing the Vols a 75-67 loss in the opening round of the 2013 NIT in Knoxville (March 20, 2013).
- Vols guard Josh Richardson had the best game of his career in last year's NCAA Tournament, and it came against Mercer.
- Then a junior, Richardson started as UT's three- man and scored a career-high 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting.
