Phil Steele Honors Four Vols For 2014 Play

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Phil Steele has recognized four Vols for their play in 2014. Freshman defensive end Derek Barnett has been named to the All-SEC Second Team and Freshman All-American Team). Junior linebacker Curt Maggitt and sophomore defensive back Cameron Sutton were both named to the All-SEC Third Team. Freshman guard Jashon Robertson was named to the Freshman All-American Team.
Barnett continues to collect postseason honors after his record-setting season. Barnett led all freshmen in the SEC with 20.5 TFLs, which ranks fourth nationally among all players. He also posted 10.0 sacks, second in the SEC among freshmen and tied for 13th nationally among all players. Barnett set Tennessee records for most TFLs and sacks by a freshman, more than doubling both records. Barnett also led all true freshmen in the SEC in tackles with 69, the third-most by a Tennessee true freshmen in history. Barnett had 18.0 TFLs in SEC games, the most of any player in the league.
Maggitt, from West Palm Beach, Florida, led the Vols with a career-best 11.0 sacks, the third-best total in the SEC this season and tied for fourth-highest total for a Tennessee player in a season all-time. He has recorded a sack in his last five consecutive games, including 2.0 sacks in three of his last four games. Maggitt also recorded 14.0 tackles for loss, tying for seventh in the league in that category and ranking behind only Barnett on the Tennessee squad.
Robertson started all 12 games as a true freshman at right guard, moving to the offensive line early in training camp after starting on the defensive line. Robertson is the only member of the Vols to start all 12 games on the line at the same position. He became the first Tennessee player since current Miami Dolphin Ja'Wuan James to start on offensive line in first college game when he did so vs. Utah State. Robertson became fourth true frosh to start opener on offensive line in Tennessee history joining Bill Mayo (1981), Michael Munoz (2000), James (2010).
Sutton started all 12 games in 2014, and posted 35 tackles including 4.0 TFLs with team-best 14 passes defended. He is tied for second on the team with three interceptions. Sutton ranks fourth in SEC lead in passes defended with 14. His 14 passes defended are tied for the fifth-most in a season in Tennessee history. He also has 13 punt returns for 146 yards with a 76-yard return for a touchdown.
