POSTGAME NOTES
TENNESSEE TIDBITS
- In its 118th season of football, UT's all-time record now stands at 808-366-53.
- UT stands at 24-7-2 in their 33 overall meetings with South Carolina.
- The Vols now hold an 9-5-2 series edge in games played in Columbia, S.C.

TENNESSEE RECORDS SET OR TIED
- Tennessee had its latest and most dramatic comeback victory in school history, The Vols trailed by 14 points (42-28) with 4:52 left in the fourth quarter. Never before had Tennessee trailed by such a large margin so late and came back to win.
- #11 Joshua Dobbs set the single-game record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 166. Broke the record held by Jimmy Streater of 150 vs. California (9/10/1977).
- Tennessee tied the NCAA record for most wins in overtime with its 11th. UT is 11-5 all-time in overtime. The Vols tie Missouri (11-5) for the most wins in NCAA history.
- Tennessee tied the school record for first downs in a game with 35. The Vols also had 35 vs. Georgia (10/11/1997) and vs. Troy (11/3/2012).
- Tennessee tied the school record for plays in a game with 95. The Vols also had 95 vs. Mississippi State (9/21/1991).
- #9 Derek Barnett tied his own school record for sacks in a game by a freshmen with three. He also did it at Ole Miss (10/18/2014).
- #9 Derek Barnett's 14 TFLs are the most by a true freshman in school history.
FIRST TIME IN UT HISTORY
- #11 Joshua Dobbs became the first player in Tennessee history to pass for 300 yards (301) and rush for 100 yards (166) in the same game.
- The Vols had a 300-yard passer, two 100-yard rushers and a 100-yard receiver for the first time in a school history with Joshua Dobbs (301 passing yards), Joshua Dobbs (166 rushing yards), #1 Jalen Hurd (125 rushing yards) and Pig Howard (109 receiving yards).
- #45 A.J. Johnson became the first player in Tennessee history with 200 career assisted tackles. He now has 203, the most in Vols' history.
ON THE CHARTS
- The rally from 14 points down in the fourth quarter equals the third-greatest fourth-quarter comeback in school history. The record is down 17 (24-7) and rallied to win 30-27 in Overtime at LSU (9/16/205). Second on the list, the Vols trailed Vanderbilt by 15 (24-9) and won 25-24 on 11/17/2007. Tennessee also trailed by 14 in the fourth and won vs. Alabama, down 27-13, and won won 28-27 on 10/20/1984.
- #11 Joshua Dobbs' 467 total yards (301 passing, 166 rushing) are the fourth most in total offense in Tennessee history. He trailed Tyler Bray (530), Peyton Manning (508) and Peyton Manning (475).
- Dobbs' 64 total plays are the sixth-most in a game in Tennessee history.
- #45 A.J. Johnson moved to second in career tackles with 10 in the game. He passed Jamie Rotella (413) and Johnson now has 420. The record of 547 by Andy Spiva.
- The Vols 645 total yards are the fourth-most in a single-game in school history.
THE LAST TIME...
- #11 Joshua Dobbs rushed for three touchdowns. The last Vol quarterback to rush for three touchdowns was Tee Martin vs. Georgia (10/9/1999).
- Dobbs rushed for three touchdowns. The last Vol to rush for three touchdowns was Rajion Neal vs. Western Kentucky (9/7/2013).
- Dobbs threw for a career-high 301 yards. The last Vol to pass for 300-plus yards was Tyler Bray with 404 vs. Missouri (11/10/2012).
- Dobbs ran for 166 yards. The last Vol to rush for 100 yards was Jimmy Streater with 103 vs. Georgia Tech (10/13/1979). It was just the fifth time in Tennessee history a quarterback rushed for 100 yards in a game.

- The Vols had two rushers with 100 yards and a 100-yard receiver: Joshua Dobbs (166 rushing yards), Jalen Hurd (125 rushing yards) and #2 Pig Howard (109 receiving yards). The last time the Vols had two 100-yard rushers and a 100-yard receiver was at Vanderbilt (11/26/1994) with James Stewart (121 rushing yards), Jay Graham (121 rushing yards) and Kendrick Jones (108 receiving yards). It was only the third time in Tennessee history such a game occurred. The other was vs. Vanderbilt (11/30/1991).
- The Vols had two rushers with 100 yards and a 100-yard receiver: Joshua Dobbs (166 rushing yards), Jalen Hurd (125 rushing yards). The last time the Vols had two rushers with 100 yards was vs. Western Kentucky (9/5/2009) as Montario Hardesty (160) and Bryce Brown (104) reached the century mark. It is just the 16th time in Tennessee history, that Tennessee had two 100-yard rushers in the game game.
- The Vols rallied from down 14 points in the fourth quarter (on two occasions). The last time the Vols rallied by 14 or more to win in the fourth quarter was on 11/17/2007 when the Vols trailed Vanderbilt by 15 (24-9) and won 25-24.
- The Vols' 645 total yards were the most since gaining a school-record 718 vs. Troy (11/3/12).
- The Vols' 645 yards are the most in an SEC game since 695 at Kentucky (11/22/1997).
- The Vols ran for 344 yards. The last time the Vols had that many in any game was vs. Western Kentucky (9/5/2009), when they ran for 380.

FOR STARTERS
- #65 Jacob Gilliam made his second consecutive start tonight against the Gamecocks at right tackle. The start marked his third of the year and second since suffering an injury in the Vols season opener against Utah State (Aug. 31).
- #3 Josh Malone started at wide receiver in place of #2 Pig Howard.
- #77 Kyler Kerbyson started at left tackle, making his sixth start of the season, while #75 Marcus Jackson returned to starting left guard.
OFFENSE
RECORD NIGHT FOR DOBBS
- #11 Joshua Dobbs made his first start for the Vols since Nov. 30, 2013 at Kentucky.
- Dobbs rushed for a team-leading 166 yards, including three touchdown rushes. Dobbs became the first Tennessee player to rush for three touchdowns since Rajion Neal did so against Western Kentucky on Sept. 7, 2013.
- Dobbs' 166 rushing yards set a new school record for a Vols quarterback, passing Jimmy Streater's 150 rushing yards against California in 1977.
- Dobbs rushing yards are only the fourth time in UT history for a quarterback to rush for more than 100 yards.
- Dobbs also completed 23-of-40 pass attempts for 301 yards and two touchdowns, combining for 467 total offensive yards. The game marks a first career 300-yard passing game for Dobbs.
HOW THEY SCORED
- #2 Pig Howard ran for a one yard touchdown on an executed reverse play in the first quarter. The touchdown marked Howard's third of the season and his second rushing touchdown this year (also, vs. Utah State on Aug. 31).
- #11 Joshua Dobbs ran for a seven-yard touchdown in the second quarter, putting UT ahead 13-7. The touchdown was Dobbs' second career rushing touchdown (also, Nov. 30, 2013 at Kentucky).
- Dobbs ran for a 36-yard touchdown with less than one minute left in the first half, his longest rushing touchdown of the season and longest since he ran for a 40-yard touchdown on Nov. 30, 2013 at Kentucky.
- On fourth and six in the fourth quarter, Dobbs connected with #1 Jalen Hurd for a 26-yard touchdown pass.
- In the fourth quarter, Dobbs rushed for a three-yard touchdown to bring the score to 42-35 in favor of South Carolina.
- #18 Jason Croom caught a nine-yard touchdown pass from Dobbs, narrowing the Vols' deficit to 42-41 with less than one minute left in the fourth quarter.
- In overtime play, #25 Aaron Medley made a 32-yard field goal to put the Vols ahead 45-42, a lead which would hold for a Tennessee win.
- #25 Aaron Medley made his six PATs against the Gamecocks. On the season, Medley is now 27-of-27 for PATs.
ON OFFENSE
- With 344 total yards rushing, the Vols recorded the most rushing yards against an SEC opponent since rushing for 406 total yards against Vanderbilt in 1994.
- The last time UT had two 100-yard rushers and one 100-yard receiver was against Vanderbilt in 1994. James Stewart and Jay Graham each reached 121 yards rushing while Kendrick Jones had 108 receiving yards.
- #11 Joshua Dobbs connected with wide receiver #9 Von Pearson for a 42-yard pass completion, one yard shy of a career-long pass for Dobbs (43 yards on Nov. 30, 2013 at Kentucky). The pass marked the second-longest completion for Pearson and the Vols this the season (also, 56 yard catch from #14 Justin Worley against Arkansas State on Sept. 6).
- Dobbs connected with #48 Alex Ellis for a 24-yard pass in the second quarter, putting UT on South Carolina's 43-yard line.
- #1 Jalen Hurd rushed for 125 yards against the Gamecocks, his most since rushing for 119 yards on 24 carries at Georgia on Sept. 27.
- With Dobbs and Hurd's rushing performances against South Carolina, the Vols had two players with more than 100 yards rushing for the first time since Sept. 5, 2009 against Kentucky.
- #2 Pig Howard recorded 109 receiving yards on five catches, establishing a career high and first-ever 100-yard receiving game for the junior wide receiver.
DEFENSE
JOHNSON FOR THE RECORD
- With 10 tackles against South Carolina, #45 A.J. Johnson passed Jamie Rotella's 413 mark (1970-72) and moved into second place on the all-time total tackles list for Tennessee with 420.
DEFENSIVELY SPEAKING
- #37 Brian Randolph led the Vols defense with 14 total tackles, establishing his fifth-career double-digit tackle game and second of the season (also, 13 vs. Florida on Oct. 4. His 14 tackles also marked a career high for tackles in a single game.
- The Vols defense held the Gamecocks to 31 offensive yards on their first possession of the game, including two PBUs credited to #54 Jordan Williams and #27 Justin Coleman.
- #27 Justin Coleman intercepted South Carolina quarterback #17 Dylan Thompson's pass in the first quarter for a return of five yards. The pick marked Coleman's second of the season and the third of his career.
- #9 Derek Barnett recorded three sacks, including his 14th tackle for loss, on South Carolina quarterback #17 Dylan Thompson. Barnett has now recorded three sacks in a game on two occasions (also, at Ole Miss on Oct. 18).
SPECIAL TEAMS
PUNTS BY DARR
- #43 Matt Darr punted three times against South Carolina. On the season, Darr now has 21 punts inside the 20-yard line and 12 punts of 50-plus yards in his last six games.
ODDS AND ENDS
STORMTROOPER SNAP
- UT donned all white uniforms against an all-black uniformed South Carolina team. With the win, the Vols snapped an eight-game losing streak in all white uniforms "Stormtroopers," dating to the 2009 road finale at Kentucky on Nov. 28, 2009.
- With the loss, the Gamecocks extend to a six-game losing streak when wearing black jerseys.
