October 30, 2014 | Soccer
OXFORD, Miss. -- Amy Neal scored on a header in the ninth minute, Carlyn Baldwin knocked in a game-tying PK in the 57th minute and Cheyenne Spade scored an incredible winner in the 108th minute to punch Tennessee's ticket to the 2014 SEC Tournament with a 3-2, double-OT win at Ole Miss.
With two minutes left on UT's (9-9-1, 4-6-1 SEC) postseason hopes, Spade scored from the left side of the box in the 108th minute off a touch from Christine Creighton. The senior midfielder kicked the ball midair to the left side of the net for her fourth goal of the season.
Tennessee (9-9-1, 4-6-1 SEC) will face No. 7 seed Alabama in the first game of the 2014 SEC Championships in Orange Beach, Ala., on Monday, Nov. 3, at 4:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
UT had a 14 shots and Ole Miss (8-6-5, 3-4-4 SEC) had 19 shots. Tennessee keeper Jamie Simmons (9-9-1) recorded four saves in the win.
Tennessee jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute off of a short corner kick by Susan Ferguson. Ferguson played the corner kick short to Baldwin, then got it back to send the cross into the box where Neal knocked it in from six yards out. The goal was Neal's sixth of the season.
In the 14th minute, Tennessee was called for a foul in its own box, setting up a penalty kick for Ole Miss' Jessica Hiskey. Simmons turned away the PK, diving to the left post, but Hiskey tapped in a rebound shot to the center of the goal to knot the game at 1-1.
Ole Miss pulled ahead, 2-1, in the 31st minute when Addie Forbus took a counterattack from midfield all the way into the box for a shot to the middle of the goal past a diving Simmons.
UT's best look at a second goal before halftime came in the 44th minute. Allie Sirna passed a ball forward to Anna McClung, who beat her defender at midfield and raced up the left side. McClung fired from the left corner of the 18 and Ole Miss keeper Kelly McCormick covered it as it neared the right post.
At the half, UT had a 7-5 shot advantage and a 3-0 edge on corner kicks.
Tennessee had a series of attacks early in the second half. In the 48th minute, Brittney Wade sent a high cross in to the box and McCormick skied to intercept it before Wilkinson could get a header attempt near the left post. In the 54th minute, Hannah Wilkinson and Aaran Parry had a nice give-and-go up the right sideline. Parry sent a cross into the center of the box and Wilkinson had a diving header go wide right.
Tennessee tied the game at 2-2 in the 57th minute when Baldwin punched in a penalty kick for the first goal of her career. An Ole Miss defender crashed into Neal inside the box to set up the PK.
UT came close to scoring in the 81st minute when Gabby Santorio sent a free kick in from midfield and Wilkinson's header inside the six went a foot over the crossbar.
In the 88th minute, Wilkinson was fouled just outside the 18. Michele Christy's free kick from the right side, curved left of the wall, but the UT attackers could not get a foot or head on the ball to punch it in.
Tennessee dodged a bullet in the 93rd minute when Jennifer Miller fired a shot from the 18 that curved just wide of the left post.
