THE SERIES
- Sunday marks the 49th meeting all-time between Tennessee and Ole Miss in a series that dates back to 1975. UT has enjoyed considerable success in the series, owning a 40-8 record all-time against the Rebels. The Lady Vols are 19-6 against Ole Miss in Knoxville and 22-4 against the Rebels under head coach Rob Patrick.
- Nov. 8, 2013: The last meeting between the two programs, Ole Miss completed the season sweep of Tennessee with a 3-1 win at Thompson-Boling Arena. Ashley Mariani had 14 kills and Jamie Lea added 12, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Rebels from snaring their first win in Knoxville since 2007.
- Oct. 18, 2013: Tennessee saw its nine-match winning streak against Ole Miss snapped when it fell 3-1 to the Rebels in Oxford. UT won the first set by a score of 25-18, but the next three games went the way of the Ole Miss. Then-senior Whitney Heeres had a career-high 14 kills while Ashley Mariani added 10.
- Nov. 9, 2012: UT's last win in the series saw the Lady Vols cruise to a 3-0 win over the Rebels in Oxford. The victory improved UT to 18-6 on the year with an 11-4 mark in SEC play.
TENNESSEE (7-15, 0-8 SEC)
- Tennessee dropped two SEC matches on the road last weekend, suffering a tough, 3-2 loss at Mississippi State before going down 3-0 at Georgia.
- At MSU, and for just the second time this season, three Lady Vols finished with double digit kills. Kelsey Bawcombe and Jamie Lea each tallied 17 while Kendra Turner had 10. . The 17 kills matched Bawcombe's career mark and were just one shy of matching Lea's season-best of 18.
- Bawcombe also had 17 digs on Friday in Starkville, second on the team behind Megan Hatcher's career-best 25, to record her second career double-double. Sophomore setter Taylor Johnson also recorded a double dip, handing out 34 helpers and 11 digs -- both career-highs -- to complete the feat for the first time in her career.
- With 21 assists on the evening against MSU, Lexi Dempsey moved into eighth place on UT's career assist list. Her assist on a Kendra Turner kill in the third set moved her past Allison Stricklin with 1,531 career assists. After adding 19 against Georgia, Dempsey now owns 1,560 assists in her career, placing her 297 back of seventh-place Kelsey Mahoney's (2008-11) 1,857.
- In falling to Georgia on Sunday, Tennessee surrendered an attack percentage of .404 to the Bulldogs -- the highest opposing attack percentage this season and fifth-highest against UT since 2001.
- Including Sunday's match, Tennessee will play three of its next four matches at home before concluding the season with four of its final six on the road.
OLE MISS (18-4, 4-4 SEC)
- The Rebels, owners of the SEC's second best winning percentage at .818, currently sit in eighth place in the league standings behind a record of 18-4, 4-4 SEC.
- Ole Miss had its three-match winning streak snapped Wednesday night when it fell at home to LSU by a 3-0 count. It was the first home loss of the season for the Rebels who entered the match as the only SEC program to stand unblemished at home.
- Sophomore Melanie Crow had a team-high 13 kills against LSU while freshman Lexi Thompson had 10. Nakeyta Clair, UM's team-leader in kills, was held to just eight at a .235 clip.
- Last weekend's win at Auburn was UM's first road victory in SEC play this season. Overall, the Rebels are 4-3 in true road games with all three of those losses coming in league play.
- Last week, sophomore setter Aubrey Edie was named the SEC's Offensive Player of the Week. She is the fifth Rebel to earn conference recognition over the first eight weeks of the season. Edie had 48 assists at Auburn and 56 more at Alabama in earning the award.
- The Rebels went 14-0 to start the 2014 season under first-year head coach Steven McRoberts. That unblemished non-conference mark stands as the best start in program history.
