KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Vanderbilt's Simone Charley scored goals in the first half and the second half and Tennessee fell to the Commodores, 2-0, on Sunday at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Tennessee (7-8-1, 2-5-1 SEC) outshot Vandy (7-8-1, 2-5-1 SEC), 18-12, and had a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Charley scored in the 37th minute from the left side of the box to the right post to give the Commodores a 1-0 lead. She added her second score in the 54th minute after Jamie Kator placed the ball inside the box and Charley punched it into the left side of the net.

Eleven of UT's 18 shots came from midfielders. Junior Susan Ferguson had six shots, senior Cheyenne Spade had three shots and Michele Christy had two shots.

Tennessee had two good looks at a goal in the first half. In the 34th minute Christine Creighton fired a shot from the 18 that Vandy's Christiana Ogunsami saved at the center of the six-yard box. In the 44th minute, Ferguson sent a cross in the box from the left side and Hannah Wilkinson, playing in her first game since the Alabama game on Sept. 26, connected on a header that hit the outside of the left post.

UT had even more chances at scoring in the second half, outshooting Vanderbilt, 12-4, after halftime.

In the 66th minute, Ferguson sent a corner kick in from the right side and Gabby Santorio fired a shot as the ball descended from 10 yards out. Ogunsami made a diving save near the right post to prevent the goal.

Ferguson worked her way to the top of the 18 in the 79th minute for a pair of shots. The first one was blocked and the second one went over the crossbar.

In the 85th minute, Carlyn Baldwin served a ball in from the right side and Ferguson fired a shot that was saved near the right post.

Tennessee next heads to Gainesville, Fla., to play No. 4 Florida on Oct. 24. The game will feature a live broadcast on SEC Network +. UT returns to Knoxville on Oct. 26 with Senior Day festivities prior to its 4 p.m. ET kickoff vs. Missouri.
