Work is progressing nicely toward the fall opening of UT's Mack and Jonnie Day Golf Practice Facility.
Constructed in association with the Greg Norman Design Group, the facility located along the banks of the Tennessee river west of Alcoa Highway will be the new home of the Lady Vols and Vols golf teams. It also will serve as a turfgrass research center.
The first phase of the project includes three practice holes, the M.C. James Driving Range and pitching and putting areas. Bermuda grass is growing on the course and tee boxes soon will be soded in anticipation of the grand opening this fall.
Phase II will include the Bonnie P. Blackburn Clubhouse, featuring heated hitting bays for year-round practice, video training space and locker rooms for both the women's and men's teams.
