The same five Tennessee Volunteers who earned All-SEC recognition from the Associated Press on Monday received similar honors from the league coaches on Tuesday. Junior safety Eric Berry was UT's lone first-team honoree, while four others earned second-team acclaim: defensive tackle Dan Williams, linebacker Rico McCoy, offensive tackle Chris Scott and tailback Montario Hardesty.
Berry concluded the season with 83 total tackles, six tackles for loss, two interceptions and two fumble returns for 48 yards. He has already garnered All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association for the second-straight year. He was a unanimous All-America selection last season and the SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
Williams, who earned first-team honors from the Associated Press, wrapped his Tennessee career with a 61-tackle season, a career high and the fourth most by an interior lineman at Tennessee since 1990. He also led the Vols in quarterback hurries with nine and tied for the team lead with 8.5 tackles for loss.
McCoy led the team and finished third in the conference with a career-high 112 tackles. He also led the league and ranked sixth nationally with five forced fumbles. McCoy's 343 career tackles rank among the top 10 in school history.
Scott started all 12 games for the Vols and did not allow a sack of quarterback Jonathan Crompton in more than 700 snaps. He has started a team-high 38-straight games entering UT's Chick-fil-A Bowl showdown with Virginia Tech on Dec. 31.
Hardesty ranked third in the league in rushing at 108.8 yards per game and scored 12 touchdowns. His season total of 1,308 rushing yards is fifth-best total in school history and 156 yards shy of the school record held by Travis Henry.
The SEC All-Freshman Team will be announced Wednesday.
