Noting Tennessee

Tennessee improves to 1-1; UAB falls to 0-3.
The Vols entered the game receiving votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today polls; UAB was unranked in both polls.
Tennessee returns to action Sept. 20 when it hosts Florida at Neyland Stadium in the Vols' 2008 SEC opener. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on CBS.

Tennessee-UAB Series

Tennessee now leads the all-time series with UAB 3-0, dating to 1998.
The Vols own a 47-4 (.922) all-time record against current members of Conference USA, and Fulmer is now 17-1 (.944) against C-USA opposition. His lone loss came at Memphis in 1996.

Phillip Fulmer's Record

Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer's record now stands at 148-46 (.763) in 17 seasons with the Vols.
Fulmer now owns a 53-14 record against non-conference opponents.

Crompton throws first two touchdown passes of season in Vols win

Junior quarterback Jonathan Crompton threw his first touchdown pass of the season on UT's second drive of the possession. His 20-yard pass to WR Gerald Jones gave Tennessee a 7-0 lead.
The touchdown pass was the sixth of Crompton's career but his first to a UT player currently on the roster.
Crompton threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jones on UT's next possession.
The Waynesville, N.C., native finished the game 19-of-31 passing for 240 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Jones and Taylor lead Vol Wideouts

Lucas Taylor's 48-yard reception on UT's third drive of the game was the Vols longest play from scrimmage so far this season. The senior wideout had three receptions for 79 yards in the first quarter.
Taylor finished the game with nine receptions for 132 yards. It marks the sixth time in his career that Taylor had more than 100 yards receiving.
Gerald Jones had both of Tennessee's touchdowns in the first half. He hauled in a 20-yard pass to get UT on the board. His second grab of the day resulted in his second touchdown -- 14 yards. Jones finished the game with three receptions for 39 yards and two touchdowns. It is the first multi-touchdown game of his career.

Foster rushes for 100 yards for first time this season; Moves into third place on career all-purpose yardage list

Senior Tennessee tailback Arian Foster rushed 12 times for 100 yards. It marks the 11th time in his career he reached the century mark.
Foster finished with 122 total yards to give him 3,374 all-purpose yards for his career. He is now in third place on UT's career all-purpose list. He passed James Stewart (3,353) today.
The San Diego native rushed for 25 yards on UT's first offensive play from scrimmage. The rush took him over 2,500 career yards.
Foster started his 16th consecutive game today. That is the longest starting streak at TB for Tennessee since Jay Graham started 24 consecutive games in the 1995 and 96 seasons.

Foster's not the only tailback Tennessee has...

Junior TB Montario Hardesty's six yard touchdown plunge in the third quarter was the 10th rushing touchdown of his career. He finished the game with seven carries for 28 yards.
Sophomore TB Lennon Creer took his second carry of the game 45 yards for a touchdown. It was the second touchdown of his career. His first touchdown was a 30-yard rush against La.-Lafayette last season.
Creer added his second touchdown of the game in the 4th quarter with a three-yard plunge.
Creer finished the game with eight rushes for 93 yards and two touchdowns.

Noting the Defense

The Vols are stingy in home-openers. In Fulmer's 17 home-openers UT has allowed over 20 points only once.
Senior LB Adam Myers-White was credited with two TFLs on UAB's second drive of the game. He had only two career TFLs in 34 games coming into the game.
Sophomore DE Chris Walker was credited with his first career forced fumble in the second quarter. It was the first fumble UT forced this season.
Sophomore DB Eric Berry ended UAB's drive deep into UT territory with an interception in the end zone. It was his second interception this season and seventh of his career.
Senior DT Walter Fisher recorded the first sack of his career in the second quarter.
Senior LB Ellix Wilson opened the 4th quarter with his first career interception.
Senior DB DeAngelo Willingham intercepted a UAB pass on the three-yard line in the fourth quarter for his second interception of the season.
Sophomore TE Brandon Warren played some defensive end in the fourth quarter.

Today's attendance was 98,205.
Tennessee's game captains today were seniors Demonte' Bolden and Adam Myers-White and juniors Wes Brown, Montario Hardesty and Josh McNeil.
Sophomore fullback Kevin Cooper made his first career start.
The following Vols made their Tennessee debuts today: Ben Bartholomew, William Brimfield, B.J. Coleman, Austin Johnson, Donald Langley, Ahmad Paige, Nick Stephens (his first career pass was a 42-yard completion to Brandon Warren) and Cory Sullins.
