Tennessee seniors Robert Ayers and Anthony Parker along with junior Rico McCoy and sophomore Eric Berry were named All-SEC by the league's coaches, the conference office announced Tuesday. Ayers and Berry were selected to the first team, while Parker and McCoy earned second-team honors.
Ayers wrapped up his career with a stellar season at defensive end, finishing sixth on the team in tackles with 49 while posting a career-high 15.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. The Clio, S.C., native was named second-team All-SEC by the Associated Press on Monday.
Berry, one of only two unanimous selections to the first team, is tied atop the FBS with seven interceptions and posted school and conference records for interception return yards with 265. The Fairburn, Ga., native also finished third on the team with 72 tackles from his strong safety position. He was named SEC Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press on Monday.
Parker started 12 games in 2008 and 39 of 44 in his career. He played both guard positions this season, starting six games on each side of the offensive line. The Jonesboro, Ga., native was also named second-team All-SEC by the Associated Press.
McCoy, a native of Washington, D.C., finished second on the team with 87 tackles from his weak side linebacker position, including 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
Alabama had a league-high 10 representatives on the two teams, while Florida had nine. Both Alabama and Florida had five members on the first team.
The conference office will announce the individual awards Wednesday and the All-SEC Freshman Team on Thursday.
