Eric Berry was named Friday to the 2007 Sporting News Freshman All-America first team, and teammate Daniel Lincoln was an honorable mention selection.
A first-year defensive back from Fairburn, Ga., Berry already was named the Sporting News??? SEC Defensive Freshman of the Year and a member of the magazine???s Freshman All-SEC squad. Rivals.com and CollegeFootballNews.com included him on their Freshman All-America teams and Berry was selected National Defensive Freshman of the Year by CollegeFootballNews.com.
Berry, who leads the SEC freshman class with 83 tackles and has a UT-record 222 interception return yards on five pickoffs, made both the league coaches??? and writers??? All-SEC second teams and is a consensus Freshman All-SEC selection.
Lincoln was tabbed by Rivals.com a Freshman All-America second team and All-SEC first team choice. The redshirt freshman placekicker from Ocala, Fla., also earned All-SEC second-team status from the league???s coaches and media and is a consensus Freshman All-SEC honoree.
The SEC???s only Groza Award semifinalist, Lincoln has made 21-of-28 field goal attempts this season and scored 112 points to rewrite the Tennessee freshman placekicking records book. And in addition to his successful on-field debut, Lincoln was named this fall to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV squad.
