Three former Tennessee basketball players are scheduled to compete in the second annual Reebok Vegas Summer League (RVSL) that begins today at COX Pavilion on the UNLV campus. Marcus Haislip, Ron Slay and Isiah Victor will be competing in what can be considered the premiere NBA summer league venue.
Haislip, a first round draft pick of the Milwaukee Bucks in 2002 who spent part of the 2005 season with the Indiana Pacers, will represent the Denver Nuggets entry. Slay, the 2003 SEC Player of the Year who helped lead the Asheville Altitude to the 2005 NBDL championship, will be playing for the Phoenix Suns entry in the RVSL. Victor, a key part of Tennessee's 2000 SEC champion squad who was one of the NBDL's leading scorers while playing for the Roanoke Dazzle in 2005, will be playing for the Orlando Magic while in Las Vegas.
The league has expanded from six teams in its inaugural season to 16 teams this year. Teams slated to appear in Vegas this summer include the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Hornets, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Orlando Magic, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, New Jersey Nets, Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers.
The RVSL format features a 43-game schedule over a 10-day span
