Tennessee freshman LaMarcus Coker was discharged from UT Medical Center Friday morning after undergoing open shoulder surgery the previous day to repair torn ligaments. Coker's surgery came one day after backfield running mate Arian Foster underwent arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus, also at UT Medical Center.
Head athletic trainer Keith Clements said Coker will be sidelined for spring practice but should make a full return in time for 2006 preseason drills. The Antioch native redshirted his first season at UT.
Foster, meanwhile, is coming off a redshirt freshman campaign in which he rushed for 879 yards -- the fifth-best freshman total in school history. A San Diego, Calif., product, Foster ended 2005 by topping the 100-yard rushing mark in each of his five starts.
"His status for the spring is yet to be determined," said Clements.
Both surgeries were performed under the direction of team orthopedic surgeons Dr. Greg Mathien and Dr. Russell Betcher.
