Tennessee senior guard C.J. Watson was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week following his season-high 23-point effort against Appalachian State last week. The Vols came-from-behind for the 89-81 win as Watson led all scorers.
He tied his career-high for field goals (7) and 3-pointers (5) and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 1:24 of the game.
Watson hit a key 3-pointer with 3:19 left in the game to stop an Appalachian State rally that had cut the Vols lead to three points.
His three steals moved him into fifth place on UT's career lists with 152.
The Las Vegas, Nev., native is shooting 55.8 percent (24-of-43) from the field and leads the Vols with his 61.9 percent (13-of-21) 3-point shooting this season. He leads the Vols with 5.6 assists per game and is tied for the team lead with 2.6 steals per game.
