Seven Vols in Playing in Baseball Summer Leagues

As the 2004 NCAA College World Series gets underway this weekend, seven Tennessee Volunteers baseball players are continuing their seasons at a number of summer collegiate leagues across the country.
Pitcher Craig Cobb and outfielder Eli Iorg are playing the 13-team New England Collegiate Baseball League. Cobb is on the Sanford (Maine) Mariners, while Iorg is with the Torrington (Conn.) Twisters. Both teams opened their 42-game schedule this past weekend.
Infielder Eric King begins his third season with the Alexandria (Minn.) Beetles in the Northwoods League along with pitcher Mike Kerfeld who is with the Thunder Bay (Ontario, Canada) Border Cats. The 10-team league, which opened June 2, plays a 64-game split schedule with the first-half and second-half division winners playing in a best of three series before meeting for the league championship.
Catcher Kelly Edmundson is playing the 10-team Valley League with the Woodstock River Bandits in Richmond, Va. The Bandits opened June 4 and play 44 games.
Infielder Chase Headley is playing with Cotuit (Mass.) Kettleers in the prestigious Cape Cod League. Cotuit opens its 44-game June 17 at Borne.
Redshirt catcher Martin Evans is playing with the New Jersey Colts in the eight-team Atlantic Collegiate League. The Colts, located in Lincroft, N.J., opened their 40-game regular season schedule June 1.
