Noting Tennessee
- Tennessee improved to 9-2 (7-1 SEC), and Kentucky fell to 2-9 (1-7 SEC)
- The Vols entered the game ranked: Associated Press No. 15, USA Today/ESPN No. 15. Kentucky was not ranked.
- Tennessee returns to action Saturday vs. Auburn in the SEC Championship Game in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. (6 p.m. ET on CBS). Auburn (13-0; 8-0 SEC) was idle this week.
Tennessee-Kentucky Series
- This was the 100th meeting between Kentucky and Tennessee dating back to 1893.
- Tennessee leads the all-time series vs. Kentucky 68-23-9, including a 36-10-6 edge in Knoxville.
- The Vols have won their last 20 meetings with the Wildcats, dating to 1985.
- Tennessee's current 20-game winning streak over Kentucky is the third longest streak over a major opponent in Division I-A. Notre Dame over Navy (41), Nebraska over Kansas (36) and Tennessee over Vanderbilt (22) are longer streaks.
Phillip Fulmer's Record
- Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer improved his record to 122-30 (.802) in 13 years with the Vols.
- Fulmer now has a 12-0 record against Kentucky and a 50-12 record vs. SEC Eastern Division teams.
Volunteers Clinch Berth in SEC Championship Game
- Tennessee captured the outright SEC Eastern Division championship with the win.
- Tennessee tied for the Eastern Division championship in 2003.
- Phillip Fulmer's Vols have either won or shared six SEC Eastern Division championships.
- The Vols' Dec. 4 appearance in the SEC Championship Game will be their fourth in the past eight years, leading all conference schools during that span. Auburn, UT's opponent in Atlanta, is next with three appearances.
- Tennessee defeated Auburn 30-29 in 1997 and Mississippi State 24-14 in 1998. The Vols dropped a 31-20 decision to LSU in 2001.
Offensive Notes
- Wide receiver Tony Brown's 18-yard reception in the first quarter gave him a catch in every game thus far this season.
- Wide receiver Robert Meachem became the first Tennessee receiver to go over 100 yards in a game this season. He finished the game with 145 yards on five catches.
- Quarterback Rick Clausen's 1-yard touchdown sneak in the first quarter was his first career rushing touchdown.
- Fullback Cory Anderson's first career rush went for 22 yards and touchdown. He had a touchdown reception earlier in the season against Auburn.
- Wide receiver C.J. Fayton had his first career pass completion today. Fayton, a four-year starter at quarterback in high school, connected with Robert Meachem on a 53-yard pass in the fourth quarter.
- Cedric Houston had 127 yards rushing on 24 carries. He was his 10th career 100-yard rushing game.
Defensive Notes
- Defensive end Karlton Neal recorded a sack (-13) in the fourth quarter.
- Safety Corey Campbell recorded his third interception of the season. It came on Kentucky's final offensive play of the game.
- Kentucky's final eight offensive plays went for minus 26 yards.
- Safety Jason Allen recorded 10 tackles today. He leads the SEC with 112 tackles.
- Linebacker Kevin Burnett recorded 10 tackles today. He ranks second in the SEC with 101 tackles. Burnett also stopped a ball carrier for a 1-yard loss on a fake field goal attempt in the second quarter.
Miscellaneous Notes
- Tennessee has trailed in every game this season except for Georgia and Vanderbilt.
- Kentucky's third quarter field goal block was the first against Tennessee since Georgia blocked one Oct. 12, 2002.
- Fifteen seniors played their final game in Neyland Stadium today. They were Tony Brown, Kevin Burnett, Dustin Colquitt, Jabari Davis, John Henderson, Cedric Houston, Corey Larkins, C.J. Leak, Victor McClure, Michael Munoz, Karlton Neal, Chuck Prugh, Jason Respert, Derrick Tinsley and Tyler Williams.
- Two juniors also played their final game in Neyland Stadium. Ovince Saint Preux and Scott Newsome will be graduating and will forego their final year of eligibility.
Attendance Notes
- Today's attendance was 102,453.
- Tennessee's season attendance was 746,507 for seven games for an average of 106,644.
- The season attendance average ranks second in the NCAA behind Michigan's 111,025. This the highest Tennessee has ranked since being second in 2000.
- Tennessee led the nation in total attendance at 746,507 in seven games. Michigan was second with attendance of 666,149 in only six games.
