Noting Tennessee
- Tennessee improved to 6-1 (4-1 SEC); Alabama falls to 5-3 (2-3 SEC).
- The Vols entered the game ranked: Associated Press No. 11, USA Today/ESPN No. 13; Alabama was not ranked
- Tennessee will return to action next week, Oct. 30, against South Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.
Tennessee-Alabama Series
- Alabama leads the series 43-37-7 and holds a 20-19-1 advantage in games played in Knoxville.
- The Vols have won nine of the last 10 meetings against the Crimson Tide.
- Tennessee and Alabama have met on a yearly basis since 1928 with the exception of the war year in 1943.
- Alabama (21) and Tennessee (13) rank first and second, respectively, in number of SEC championships.
- The Crimson Tide (51) and the Vols (44) also rank first and second, respectively, in the NCAA for number of bowl game appearances.

Phillip Fulmer's Record
- Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer improved his record to 119-29 in 13 years with the Vols.
- The Vols are 31-8 under Fulmer vs. SEC Western Division teams (10-2 Alabama).
- Under Fulmer, the Vols are 94-5 when leading at halftime - UT led 14-10 at the break tonight.
Ainge Recovers From Slow Start
- Freshman quarterback Erik Ainge earned his fourth career start for the Vols.
- Ainge improved to 3-1 as a Tennessee starter
- Ainge was 0-for-5 to begin the game but recovered to complete a 19-yard touchdown to Jayson Swain before halftime.
- His final numbers were 10-for-22 with two interceptions and one touchdown.
- Freshman quarterback Brent Schaeffer did not play.
Riggs Runs Again
- Freshman tailback Gerald Riggs earned his second career start at tailback for the Vols.
- Riggs led the Vols with 39 yards on 19 carries.
Defense Helps Secure Victory
- UT defensive lineman Parys Haralson scored his first career touchdown on an 18-yard fumble recovery following Turk McBride's forced fumble on the game's second play.
- It was the first time a UT player returned a fumble for a touchdown since defensive tackle Rashad Moore scored on a 9-yard return at Mississippi State Nov. 16, 2002.
- McBride, an end, made his second career start as a Vol and first start at defensive tackle in place of injured Jesse Mahelona.
- Corey Campbell intercepted Spencer Pennington at the UT 15 with 46 seconds left to play to seal the game.
- Jason Allen led all Vols with a game-high 15 tackles, while Kevin Burnett had 11.

Fast Facts
- The four-point UT win was the closest margin of victory in the Alabama-Tennessee series since a 17-17 tie in 1993, although the 1994 game was also a four-point margin, a 17-13 Crimson Tide victory.
- Last year's game went to five overtimes, but the Vols prevailed by eight, 51-43.
- Tennessee has won its four SEC games by two, five, four and four points, respectively.
- Tennessee has been outscored in SEC games 106-97, although the Vols' hold a 4-1 conference record.
- Derrick Tinsley's 45-yard second-quarter punt return was the longest of his career, nearly doubling his previous career total yardage of 23.
- Tinsley's return was UT's longest since Mark Jones had a 58-yard touchdown return against Vanderbilt Nov. 22, 2003.
- Jayson Swain set career highs with five catches and 80 yards, and he also caught a 19-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
