Pratt Falls in U.S. Amateur Match Play

Former Tennessee golfer Andrew Pratt fell in the second round of match play at the 2003 U.S. Amateur. Pratt lost to Nick Flanagan of New Zealand by two holes with only one to play.
The match opened with Flanagan winning the first hole. From then the two matched pars on the second hole before Flanagan won hole three to lead by two. The competitors split the fourth hole and then Pratt won his first hole to cut his deficit to one. After splitting the sixth hole Pratt tied the match on No. 7. He took a breif lead at No. 8 before losing No. 9 to make the turn tied.
Flanagan took the lead once again on the 10th hole only to see Pratt tie the score once again on 11. The back-and-forth battle continued over the next four holes with Flanagan winning 12, both making par on 13 and Pratt winning 14. Flanagan finally seized control on Nos. 15 and 16 to enter the final two holes leading by two. Both players parred No. 17 to give Flanagan the win by two with one hole to play.
The Championship runs through Sunday, Aug. 24 with a 36-hole final. The winner of the U.S. Amateur earns a spot in next year's U.S. Open.
The Tennessee men's golf team opens its 2003-04 season Sept. 13-14, when it competes in the Bank of Tennessee/Ridges Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tenn.
