Former Vol Pratt Advances at 2003 U.S. Amateur

Former Tennessee golfer Andrew Pratt advanced to the second round of match play at the 2003 U.S. Amateur with a win over Paul Polinsky of St. Joseph's University. The match, which took place at Oakmont Country Club, was called after Pratt was up by six holes with only five remaining.
Pratt opened play by claiming the first two holes with pars, while Polinsky had two bogeys. Polinsky then claimed the third hole to reduce the deficit to one. Both players made par on the next two holes with Pratt still holding a one-stroke lead. From there Pratt took control, winning the next two holes. The two competitors matched scores on the eighth and ninth holes to make the turn with Pratt leading by two.
To open play on the back nine, Pratt won hole 10 to increase his lead to four. Both players parred No. 11 before Pratt put the contest out of reach by winning Nos. 12 and 13 for a six-hole lead with only five to play.
Pratt will now face Nick Flanagan, originally of New Zealand. Flanagan defeated Steve Bendt, of San Jose State, by one hole.
The tournament continues Thursday with two more rounds of match play scheduled. The Championship runs through Sunday, Aug. 24 with a 36-hole final. The winner of the U.S. Amateur earns a spot in next year's U.S. Open.
