UT's Skinns Finishes 22nd at NCAA Golf Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. - Tennessee sophomore David Skinns fired a 4-over-par 76 today to finish in a tie for 22nd on the individual leaderboard of the 2003 NCAA Golf Championships at Karsten Creek Golf Club.
Skinns, who was one of the top six individuals not on one of the top 18 teams to make the cut after third round play allowed to play Friday's final 18. The Tennessee All-America completed the event by shooting 76-79-68-76--299 on the challenging course that resulted in some of the highest team and individual scores in recent memory for this event. Skinns' -4 under 68 in Thursday's round tied for the second-best individual total for the tourney.
Top ranked Clemson captured its first national golf team title today by carding a 15-over 303 today and finishing with a 1191 (+39) for the tournament. The Tigers were two shots better than Oklahoma State (1193) who was hosting the event for the first time since 1973. The Cowboys were followed by, UCLA (1197) Wake Forest (1198) and Florida (1198).
Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares won the individual title after firing a 3-under 69 and finishing the tournament with a -1 under 287. After recording a 5-over 77 in the first round, Canizares shot a combined 6-under in the final 54 holes.
Auburn's Lee Williams, who was atop the individual leaderboard the past two days, finished one shot behind Canizares after shooting a 5-over 77 today. Mathew Rosenfeld of Texas finished third with a 2-over 290.
Tennessee, playing in its first NCAA Championships since 1997, finished 23rd and failed to make the 18-team cut to play in Friday's final round.
