Tennessee basketball coach Buzz Peterson announced this morning that Damion Harris has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Tennessee beginning with the 2004-05 season.
"We are excited that Damion has decided to join the Tennessee family," Peterson said. "The addition of Damion will do a lot to strengthen our frontline. He is a hard-working player who is constantly working to improve his game."
A 6-foot-10, 255-pound forward from Wade Hampton High School in Greenville, S.C., Harris averaged 14.9 points and 14 rebounds while leading the Generals to a 13-10 record and an appearance in the state playoffs as a junior. A player who has drawn comparisons to former North Carolina all-America and current Washington Wizards center Brendan Haywood, he scored a season-high 27 points in a 76-67 win over Carolina High School as a junior. Harris was recently named an honorable mention selection on Street & Smith's 2003 Boys High School All-America Team.
