Jordan Howell, a freshman on the Tennessee basketball team, has withdrawn from school for medical reasons and will redshirt the 2003-04 season, head coach Buzz Peterson announced today. The 6-foot-3 guard from Auburn, Ala., will return to school in January.
"We fully support Jordan and his family's decision," Peterson said. "We look forward to him coming back in January, if not sooner."
Considered a threat to score from anywhere on the floor, Howell averaged 17.5 points on 47 percent shooting from three-point range as a senior for Bob Jones High School.
A first-team Class 6A All-State selection and one of four finalists for Alabama Mr. Basketball, he led the Patriots to a 30-6 record and a runner-up finish in the Class 6A state finals last year.
