Tennessee head coach Jim Kelson announced the signing of Ross Cox and Jonathan Mount to letters of intent to play golf at the University of Tennessee beginning in the fall of 2003. Cox and Mount are both local players with Cox hailing from Knoxville and Mount from Kingston.
"The University of Tennessee men's golf program is fortunate to announce the signing of Ross Cox and Jonathan Mount," Kelson said. "There is no question that both these young men possess the talent to contribute immediately."
Cox helped lead Farragut High School to the AAA state tournament in 2001 and 02, winning the individual championships in 2001 as a junior with scores of 69-69--138. In 2002 he finished ninth with a 71-73--144. He also advanced to sectional qualifying for the 2002 U.S. Open.
"Ross has demonstrated a great deal of consistency over the past several years," Kelson said. "He has proven this by capturing the state individual title in 2001 and advancing to the sectional qualifying of the 2002 U.S. Open."
Mount attended Roane County High School where he finished fourth at the 2002 A-AA Tennessee state tournament. He also claimed the 2002 National High School Championship in Orlando, Fla.
"Jonathan is rapidly becoming a very fine player," Kelson said. "He demonstrated his potential by capturing the National High School Championship in 2002."
