Vols Complete Series Sweep of Vanderbilt With 3-1 Win

Knoxville, Tenn. (May 7)- Justin Parker set the school record for triples in a season and John Massey slugged his sixth home run as the Tennessee Volunteers handed the Vandebilt Commodores a 3-1 loss in a three-game series sweep at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Tennessee improved to 39-20 and 10-15 in Southeastern Conference, staying one-half game behind the Mississippi Rebels for the eighth and final spot in SEC tournament with one weekend reamaining. Vanderbilt fell to 21-30 and 5-21 in the league.
The Vols took a 2-0 lead in the fifth on Parker's school-record eighth triple of the season and a sacrifice bunt by Jeff Baumtrog that plated Parker.
Vanderbilt struck for a run in the seventh when Sean Luellwitz scored from second on Scott Vanderhoff's second hit of the day to cut the lead to 2-1. But Massey's lead off home run in the bottom of the seventh put Tennessee up 3-1.
Devon Nicholson (2-0) pitched four innings in relief of starter Marlyn Tisdale for the win, while Brad Love notched his first save by tossing two shutout innings to close the game.
Andy Beal (2-10) went the distance for the Commodores in taking the loss. He struckout six and did not allow a walk.
Tennessee plays host to Middle Tennessee State, Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. EDT in the final home game of the season.
