Vols Baseball s Middle Tennessee State 7-0

Knoxville, Tenn. - Jamie Bennett, Justin Parker and Brad Love combined on a four-hit shutout as the Tennessee Volunteers defeated the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, 7-0, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
With the win, Tennessee improved to 40-20, marking the seventh time in the last nine years that the Vols reached the 40-win mark and the first time since 1997.
The Blue Raiders fell to 30-21 with the loss as they dropped their fifth in the last six.
Bennett (10-3) picked up his 10th win of the season after tossing five shutout innings, allowing three hits. Parker and Love gave up just one hit in the four shutout innings they worked.
Kris Lammers (5-2) took the loss after allowing all seven runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. Kyle Sparkman and Brad Howard held the Vols to one hit over the final 3 2/3 innings.
Tennessee broke the game open with a three-run fourth keyed by Chris Burke's two-run home run in grabbing a 5-0 lead. Kris Bennett's two-run single in the fifth put Tennessee up 7-0.
Tennessee took a 1-0 lead in the first on John Massey's base hit that scored Stevie Daniel who singled and stole second, before advancing to third on a passed ball. The steal tied Clay Greene's school record of 54 set in 1997.
The Vols added a run in the bottom of the third on Brandon Hopkins' single that scored Massey.
Tennessee travels to Columbia, S.C., to face the No. 1 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks in the final Southeastern Conference series of the season, May 12-14. Game times are 7 p.m., 4 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday's game can be seen live on Fox Sports Net at 7 p.m.
MTSU winds up the regular season with a three-game series at Eastern Illinois, May 13-14.
