HEAD COACHES' QUOTES
Tennessee
Head Coach Phillip Fulmer
"I want to compliment Georgia and their staff on a good job. This was
obviously disappointing for us; we are still fighting and trying to make some
plays. I appreciate the emotional fight of the team. We will continue to improve
and we have some big games left. Our team is very young, but they want to continue
the tradition left to them. It has been a tough year with our youth and also
some upperclassmen have not been able play."
Georgia Head Coach Jim Donnan
"It was a big game for us. I can't
say enough about the way our team came together. Our defense was awesome, our
kicking game was good, and our offense did what it had to do. It's a big win.
We have a lot to look forward to. We have some things to improve on, too. But
I thought we did a good job throughout the night.
"Our pass rush was good throughout the game. We had some sacks. I thought our tackling of Henry was good. It was good to get this win, but we can't sit back and celebrate too much. We understand what's ahead. I thought our team played with great poise. We're now tied for the league lead and we'll see what lies ahead. We have a lot to look forward to."
PLAYER QUOTES
Tennessee Players
Quarterback A.J. Suggs
"We had a lot of opportunities tonight, but we could not convert. We
had our moments tonight, but they just got the better of us at the end. We knew
coming in that they had a good defensive line. They dictated how we played in
many ways tonight."
Defensive End Constatin Ritzmann
"I got to the line pretty easily
and made the hit on Quincy Carter to cause the fumble. Our defense did well
at times tonight, but sometimes Georgia made the plays it had to. You have always
got to be careful and hit Carter because he is hard to bring down."
Georgia Players
Defensive Tackle Marcus Stroud
"We went out and played hard today and the offense stuck it in whether
we needed to. The kicking game was also awesome. We're kind of disappointed
about giving up ten points, but we came away with the win. When we went up 21-10,
everyone was celebrating, but we knew we couldn't stop. We had to play until
the final buzzer. We just wanted the win more than they did."
Quarterback Quincy Carter
"This win was big for our program
and for our confidence. We have to give ourselves some credit, but we also have
to come back and start working tomorrow.
"I never take winning or losing personally. It's always been a team game. I want to thank our defensive line, our offensive line, and our running backs. They had a great game today. It's not about Quincy, it's about a team and the team won this game tonight."
Running Back Jasper Sanks
"It's amazing. We have been working
so hard. We just reached down deep and pulled out some pride. It was a great
feeling to win. It felt like we won the National Championship tonight. The offensive
line and fullback Haynes did an awesome job and Quincy kept his composure and
hung in there. It was a feeling of relief. Nine games of losing to Tennessee
and we drew the line in 2000. It's an amazing feeling."
