Sean Barows joined the Tennessee Media Relations staff in September of 2015 after spending the previous three-plus years working in the athletic communications department at his alma mater, the University of South Florida. He works closely with the Tennessee baseball and football programs.
In the summer of 2021, Barows was promoted to Associate Director of Media Relations. His duties include assisting the media, coordinating interviews, conducting press conferences, producing departmental publications for his assigned sports, compiling statistics, archiving statistical and historical data, running social media accounts for his assigned sports and helping maintain the university’s official athletics website, UTsports.com.
Barows spent his first two years on Rocky Top as the primary contact for soccer and softball before transitioning to be the primary contact for baseball and a secondary contact for football prior to the 2017-18 academic year.
Before joining Tennessee’s staff, Barows worked for three-plus years at USF, where he spent time as the primary contact for the women’s soccer, men’s soccer, softball and sailing programs.
After graduating from USF, Barows spent the 2012 season as a public relations intern for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, where he helped coordinate media availabilities and press conferences, put together game notes and other informational materials for the local and national media and assisted the full-time public relations staff on game day during all Buccaneers’ home games.
Barows earned his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from USF in 2012 and went on to complete his Master’s in Business Administration with a specialization in sports business from Saint Leo University in 2018.
Barows lives in Knoxville with his wife, Chynna.
