Assistant Athletics Director of Digital & Creative Strategy Kellen Hiser provides oversight of UT’s 151 Creative unit—Tennessee’s in-house creative agency—while driving the athletic department’s digital and social media presence. In his current role, Hiser is also responsible for ideating and executing recruiting content for Tennessee’s Olympic sports programs as well as assisting the athletics department’s efforts related to Name, Image and Likeness education and preparation for student-athletes.
Within 151 Creative, Hiser oversees and coordinates all creative and brand-building initiatives for Tennessee Athletics and its 20 varsity sports. Working parallel to and in collaboration with Tennessee’s strategic communications staff and the famed VFL Films videography team, the 151 Creative unit focuses on graphic design, photography, digital, branding and storytelling.
Under Hiser’s direction—and with the aid of #VolTwitter—Tennessee has ranked consistently among the nation’s leaders in social media interactions and engagement in the sports of football, men’s and women’s basketball, softball and baseball. His social media strategy during the 2018-19 men’s basketball season saw the @vol_hoops Twitter account rank third in the country in total interactions—trailing only Duke and Kentucky.
During the development of Tennessee Athletics' comprehensive five-year strategic plan, Rise Glorious—which was published in July of 2022—Hiser served on the Brand Advancement & Messaging Committee.
Hiser earned his M.S. in Recreation & Sports Management at Tennessee in 2016. While pursuing his master’s degree, he served as the primary media relations contact for the volleyball and track & field programs, as well as the secondary contact for football and men’s basketball. He began full-time work at Tennessee in 2016, eventually holding the positions of Assistant Media Relations Director, Associate Director of Social Media Strategy, and Director of Digital & Creative Strategy, respectively. He was named to his current role in July 2021.
Prior to Tennessee, Hiser spent three years in the sports information office at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Hiser attended the University of Wyoming as an undergrad, graduating summa cum laude with a B.A. in English. While at UW, Hiser worked in campus recreation as an intramurals supervisor.
A native of Laramie, Wyoming, Hiser and his wife, Breanne, live in Knoxville with their two children.
