Scott Carter has joined the University of Tennessee as assistant director of development for the men's athletic department.
The Knoxville native will be in charge of developing and maintaining relationships with Volunteer Athletic Scholarship Fund (VASF) donors and prospects, cultivating efforts for the annual fund and assisting the University of Tennessee Athletics Department with the development and marketing of various special events.
Previously, Carter worked as an assistant to the athletic director for external relations for East Tennessee State University (ETSU). While working at ETSU, he acted as a significant member of the marketing staff that established and put into practice numerous athletic sponsorship programs, promotional concepts, fundraising initiatives and advancement campaigns.
"We are excited Scott decided to join our development staff. Scott's experience and abundant energy will benefit our efforts tremendously," said David Blackburn, assistant athletic director of development.
Carter also served as a spokesperson for ETSU through community outreach programs and recognition for academic and athletic achievement. Prior to that, he served here in Knoxville as an assistant to the athletic director and athletic assistant for Knox County Schools.
Carter is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of East Tennessee State University with a bachelor's degree in sports management and a master's in athletic administration. During his time at ETSU, he played fullback from 1998-2002. Carter is a 1997 graduate of Halls High School. He is married to the former Kristen King of Powell, Tenn.
"As a former student-athlete Scott Carter understands first hand the impact of an athletic scholarship on a young person's life," said John Currie, associate athletic director for external operations. "Growing up in this area, he has Big Orange in his blood and will do a good job working with current and prospective donors."
