#17 Lady Vols Complete Saturday Sweep Against Coastal Carolina

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The No. 17 Tennessee volleyball team returned home after a pair of neutral site contests, sweeping Coastal Carolina (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon at Food City Center.
The victory continued the trend for the Lady Vols (6-1) to begin the season. In all five of their home matches so far this season, the Lady Vols won each via a sweep.
The Tennessee offense put up 51 kills in the match, doing so on a .288 hitting percentage to go along with 48 assists and four aces. Jalyn Stout led the day against her former team, posting a season-high 17 kills, eight digs and three assists. Kennedi Rogers had another double-digit kill outing, with 10, followed closely by freshman Jolene Oddo with nine kills. Caroline Kerr logged her second 40-assist match of the season and added eight digs and four kills.
On the defensive side, Tennessee held the Chanticleers (4-3) to just 26 kills on .147 hitting thanks to 43 digs and seven blocks. Rogers led the effort at the net with four blocks. Oddo had another strong day at the net as well, finishing with three blocks of her own. Five Lady Vols tallied at least six digs on the day. Stout and Raegan Burns each had eight apiece, while sophomore outside hitter Maggie Dostic tallied seven.
The first set was marked by a slow start for Tennessee, falling behind by three points early on. UT would right the ship as the set went on, but Coastal Carolina would battle throughout in a set with six tie scores. The Lady Vols would post 17 kills and an ace to get the day started. The defense would hold the Chanticleers to nine kills thanks to blocks. Stout led the way with six kills on a .600 hitting percentage.
Tennessee would once again have to overcome a slow start in the second set, not taking the lead until midway through the frame. As a team, UT had 16 kills to go along with two aces and two blocks. Stout and Oddo keyed the offense with six and five kills respectively, while Kerr fed the offense with 13 assists. After a quick start to the set, the Coastal Carolina offense would struggle to find its footing as the set progressed, held to just eight kills on a .167 hitting percentage.
It was all Lady Vols in the third, with a 9-1 run putting the hosts in complete control. The Big Orange offense saved its best for last, with 18 kills on an impressive .412 hitting percentage. It was a complete team effort on the offensive side in the third stanza, with five players posting two or more kills. The defense once again quieted the Coastal Carolina attack, holding the Chanticleers to nine kills in the final frame.
Up next, Tennessee plays its first true road match of the year as it heads to Charlotte to face Queens next Tuesday. First serve for that contest will be 5:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+.
