DURHAM, N.C. – Tennessee graduate student Amelia Wills made her collegiate outdoor debut in record-breaking fashion Sunday night, shattering UT's all-time mark in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Her time of 9:52.51 established a new school record and earned a first-place finish at the meet.
Wills' performance marked a new personal best and the first sub-10-minute steeplechase by a Lady Vol, breaking the previous program standard of 10:04.15 set by Katie Thronson in 2022. Her time also stands out nationally, currently ranking sixth on the 2026 NCAA outdoor list.
Tennessee posted three school records over three days of competition this weekend. In addition to Mills' program best in the steeplechase, Igor Olaru (73.05m / 239-8) and Cedricka Williams (60.76m / 199-4) established new standards in the men's hammer and women's discus, respectively.
Additionally, Tennessee junior Carter Knox competed in the 800-meter on Sunday at Duke. The Manchester, Maryland, native placed 11th with a time of 1:49.16.
UP NEXT: The Vols and Lady Vols turn their attention to the outdoor postseason in two weeks, with Auburn set to host the SEC Championships from Thursday through Saturday, May 14-16.
