#12 Lady Vols earn 4-0 win over Missouri
March 29, 2026 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 12 University of Tennessee women's tennis team (11-6, 6-5) picked up win Sunday over the Missouri Tigers (11-13, 0-11), posting a 4-0 victory at Barksdale Stadium.
"You have to be ready to go from the very beginning, and our team was, so it's good," Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said. "I think that we just have to be focused and go take care of business against whoever we're playing."
The Lady Vols claimed their sixth consecutive doubles point with wins on courts two and one to seal the victory.
Tennessee set the tone early on court three in the doubles round, with Katrina Scott and Maeve Thornton carding a comfortable 6-2 victory in which the Lady Vol duo never trailed. To close out the doubles point, the No. 74-ranked duo of Vanesa Suarez and Francesca Mattioli used four consecutive games over the Tiger pairing of Lara Quaglia and Gian Octa to seal it, 6-2, on court one. Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez-Risso trailed 5-4 to Missouri's Korina Roso and Zoe Lazar before the clinch.
"The big thing with us right now is first serve percentage and returns in court," Ojeda said. "Because if we do those two things, we know the way we play doubles is going to be in very short points, and those are the two most important shots in every single point. That's the goal, in doubles right now, and the rest will take care of itself."
In singles competition, Tennessee tallied wins on courts one, three and six to clinch the dual. Every Lady Vol won their first singles set en route to the sweep.
On court three, No. 18-ranked Britez-Risso controlled her match from start to finish against Missouri's Ackman with a 6-0, 6-2 result for Tennessee's second dual point.
Concluding moments after, on court one, Scott closed out her match against Octa in similar fashion with an impressive 6-0, 6-2 final.
The final point for the Lady Vols was a race between courts four, two, and six to close out the Tigers. Playing singles for the second time this spring – and first in SEC play – the junior Thornton closed out the match against Missouri's Lazar 6-2, 6-2.
All three unfinished courts leaned in favor of Tennessee before the clinch, with Suarez up 6-2, 4-3 on court two, Catherine Aulia leading 6-4, 5-1 on court four, and Audrey Aulia winning 7-5, 2-0 on court 6.
"We'll go sit down, and we'll meet," Ojeda said of preparing for the rest of the season. "We will get ready, and we'll talk about South Carolina and how we can best prepare for them and Georgia, while also sneaking in a little bit of rest."
