#19/20 Lady Vols Earn Top Five Finish at Clemson Invitational

SUNSET, S.C. – The No. 19/20 Tennessee women's golf team concluded the Clemson Invitational on Sunday as one of just four teams under par at The Reserve at Lake Keowee.
The Lady Vols posted their best team score of the weekend in round three with a 3-under-par 285. At 1-under-par overall, Tennessee closes the tournament in fourth place among the field of 16. No. 4 Florida claimed the team title at 17-under-par, narrowly besting No. 8 Arkansas' final tally of 16-under-par. No. 15 Vanderbilt was the only other team to finish ahead of the Lady Vols, closing at 4-under-par.
For Tennessee, it is the seventh top five team finish in eight tournaments this season.
Kyra Van Kan carded the best round by a Lady Vol this weekend during Sunday's third round. The sophomore from South Africa fired an impressive bogey-free 4-under-par 68 to climb to 4-under-par overall. With the second consecutive and 11th overall round in the 60s of her collegiate career, Van Kan climbed to a tie for fifth place in the final individual standings. It is her fourth top five finish in what has been a breakout sophomore season.
Madison Messimer posted her third consecutive round of par or better on Sunday to clinch a top ten individual finish for the Lady Vols. The South Carolina native competing on home soil recorded a 1-under-par 71 in round three thanks to four birdies, which counteracted three bogeys. At 3-under-par overall, Messimer closed the Clemson Invitational tied for seventh place, clinching the sixth top ten individual finish of her debut collegiate season.
Kaopan Thapasit secured a top 25 finish thanks to a 1-over-par 73 in round three. The Thailand international tallied four birdies on the day to conclude the tournament at 3-over-par. With a tie for 25th place, Thapasit earns the fifth top 25 finish of her debut collegiate season.
Manassanan Chotikabhukkana and Sofie Engesaeth matched Thapasit with a 1-over-par 73 in round three of the Clemson Invitational to round out Tennessee's countable team scores. At 6-over-par, Chotikabhukkana closes in a tie for 42nd place, while Engesaeth concludes the Clemson Invitational tied for 51st place at 9-over-par.
The Lady Vols have one tournament remaining before the SEC Championship. The team will head to Dallas for the Huntington Bank Collegiate on April 6 and 7 at Trinity Forest Golf Course before postseason tournaments commence.
