Cade Gray Named SEC Field Athlete of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference office announced Tuesday that Tennessee redshirt senior Cade Gray has been named the SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week. The Ocala, Florida, native recorded an SEC-best clearance of 5.68 meters (18-7.5) in the pole vault this past weekend at the Doc Hale Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Gray's mark not only leads the SEC this season, but also ranks sixth nationally on the 2025-26 NCAA Division I performance list and sits third in Tennessee program history. He anchors a standout group of UT pole vaulters, as Tennessee became the first school in collegiate history to have five athletes clear 18 feet in the same season.
Under the direction of assistant coach Kyle Ellis, Tennessee currently ranks No. 1 in the USTFCCCA Event Squad rankings for the men's pole vault, boasting an average clearance of 5.63 meters (18-5.75) from its top four performers.
Gray is the first Vol to earn weekly conference honors this season and the first to be named SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week since triple jumper Jalen Tate received the accolade on Jan. 26, 2021.
