June 13, 2025 | Track & Field
EUGENE, Ore. – The Tennessee men's track & field program wrapped up the 2025 outdoor season with a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championships, scoring 18 points with six top-8 efforts on Friday at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The Vols carded their best finish at the outdoor national meet under head coach and director of track & field Duane Ross.
Sophomore standout Aron Alvarez Aranda opened Friday's action in the men's discus final, placing eighth nationally with a first-round toss of 59.87 meters (196-5). The South African thrower earned First Team All-America honors for his performance and became the fourth Vol in program history with multiple All-America certificates in the men's discus.
On the track, Tennessee opened up with a fifth-place finish in the men's 4x100-meter relay as Deron Dudley, Davonte Howell, Kalib Branch and T'Mars McCallum got the baton around in 38.79 seconds. The mark scored four points for UT and secured UT's 13th All-America showing in the event all-time.
Howell and McCallum compiled five points for the Big Orange in the men's 100-meter final, placing fifth and eighth respectively with times of 10.17 and 10.24. The duo became the first Vol teammates to score in the same NCAA 100-meter final since Justin Gatlin (1st) and Sean Lambert (5th) in 2001.
UT freshman Saad Hinti rounded out his rookie season with a fifth-place outing in the men's 400-meter hurdles final, turning in a time of 49.11 seconds. The Moroccan national record holder becomes the fourth Vol in three seasons to earn All-America status in the event, matching Rasheeme Griffith's fifth-place finish in 2023 as the best of the Ross era.
Tennessee concluded the men's portion of the meet in the 200-meter final, with McCallum finishing fifth overall in 20.16 seconds. The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, native became the first Vol to score in both the 100- and 200-meter dash at the NCAA Championships since VFL Christian Coleman swept titles in those events in 2017.
UP NEXT: Tennessee's NCAA contingent will wrap up the national meet on Saturday with freshman Donna Douglas slated to compete in the women's discus final – scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET.
