Marin Repeats as ITA Ohio Valley Region Assistant Coach of the Year
June 10, 2025 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Matias Marin, the associate head coach for the University of Tennis women's tennis team the past two seasons, earned ITA Ohio Valley Region Assistant Coach of the Year accolades, as announced Tuesday morning.
This is the second consecutive honor for Marin, who recently concluded a successful two-year stint with the Lady Volunteers after the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.
"Matias gave us his all for the two years he was here," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "He received this great honor both seasons and truly deserved it each time. I am so thankful for Matias and all he has done for our thriving program."
Marin helped continue the national ascent of the Tennessee program during his second year on Rocky Top. After aiding the program to a Final Four trip and a No. 12 year-end ranking in 2024, his coaching helped Tennessee reach the Elite Eight and finish ninth in 2025.
The 2024 NCAA semifinalist team lost five significant contributors, but Marin played a crucial role in recruiting seven newcomers to Knoxville en route to the program's top-10 finish. During the season, he helped tutor a pair of First Team All-SEC designees in Catherine Aulia and Elza Tomase.
This is the fifth time a Tennessee assistant coach has garnered assistant coach of the year accolades. Ty Schaub claimed the plaudit in 2019, while Jarryd Chaplin did so in 2021 and 2023.
