Meg Flanagan Named to SEC Community Service Team
May 07, 2025 | Rowing
Tennessee junior rower Meg Flanagan has earned a spot on the 2025 SEC Rowing Community Service Team, an honor that celebrates student-athletes from across the conference for their outstanding dedication to community engagement and volunteer work.
Â
Flanagan, a key member of UT's first varsity eight crew and a 2024 CRCA First Team All-American, has shown dedicated involvement with the VOLeaders Academy as a member of its 2024–25 class. The VOLeaders Academy is a distinguished, year-long leadership development program that empowers University of Tennessee student-athletes to make a positive impact on their teams, campus and communities through the lens of sport. Selected as part of the academy's largest cohort to date, Flanagan represents not only her sport of rowing but also the Volunteer spirit of servant leadership that defines the university.
Â
Through her participation in VOLeaders, Flanagan engaged in rigorous academic coursework centered around personal growth, social responsibility and leadership development. She took part in two specialized classes within the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences, gaining knowledge in leadership theory, cross-cultural communication and the societal role of sport. Her commitment to service culminates in the program's signature two-week international service trip, to Brazil this year, where student-athletes collaborate with local organizations to promote social change and community development through sport.
Â
By using her platform as a student-athlete, she has embraced the Volunteer Creed to "shadow oneself to give light to others," actively contributing to initiatives that extend beyond rowing.
