Spearman, Burdick Help Chaos Claim USA 3X Nationals Title
May 04, 2025 | Women's Basketball
University of Tennessee rising senior Zee Spearman and LVFL Cierra Burdick helped their team finish an undefeated run and capture the 2025 USA Basketball 3X Nationals women's division championship on Sunday at Arizona Athletic Grounds (AAG) in Mesa, Arizona.Â
Spearman and Burdick joined forces with LSU's MiLaysia Fulwiley and Maryland's Christina Dalce to form a team called Chaos and produce a 6-0 record at the 3x3 event, winning the title contest against previously-unbeaten Rise, 14-12 in overtime, to close out a perfect weekend.
Thanks to two early buckets, Spearman kept her team close and pulled Chaos to within 5-4 at the first media timeout. Shortly after that, she hit a layup to provide her squad a 7-6 advantage with 5:04 remaining. After Rise began to separate, a Spearman bucket cut the deficit to 11-9 with 1:25 on the clock, and then Fulwiley hit a layup to tie it up with eight seconds to go and send the game into overtime.
In the extra period, rules dictate that the first team scoring two points is the winner. Â With Chaos getting first possession, a bucket beyond the arc by Fulwiley delivered her, Burdick, Spearman and Dalce the victory.Â
Chaos opened played on Friday with a 14-11 triumph over 3XBA and defeated Stephen F. Austin (13-6) and Florida (18-10) on Saturday to close out Pool D play with a 3-0 mark.
The squad edged Richmond, 19-18, to open the championship bracket on Sunday morning. It then blew out South Carolina, 21-10, in the semifinals to earn a spot in the title game vs. Rise.Â
3X Nationals serves as an evaluation for selection to various future USA Basketball 3x3 national teams, including the 2025 FIBA 3x3 World Cup, set for June 23-29 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and roster spots for USA Basketball 3x3 World Tour, 3x3 Women's Series, 3x3 U23 Nations League and 3x3 U23 World Cup teams.
Played on a half court with a 10-minute clock and a 12-second shot clock, the first team to 21 points, or the team in the lead at the end of regulation, is the winner.Â
This was the second USA Basketball experience for Spearman, a 6-foot-4 forward from Dacula, Ga. She previously took part in the 2022 U18 National Team Trials.
Burdick, who played at UT from 2011-15, is a veteran of USA Basketball 3x3 teams, helping her country to a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Additionally, the 6-2 forward from Charlotte, N.C., has won gold with USA 3x3 squads at the 2023 Pan American Games and the 2023 and 2014 FIBA 3x3 World Cups as well as with 5-on-5 teams at the 2011 FIBA U19 World Cup, 2010 FIBA U17 World Cup and 2009 FIBA Americas U16 Championship.
