#4 Lady Vols Secure Pair of Grand Final Berths at NCAA Championships

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – On day two of the NCAA Championships, the fourth-ranked Tennessee rowing team battled through deep AB semifinal fields early Saturday morning to secure a spot in the Grand Final for both its 1V8 and 1V4 crews.
With inclement weather expected around Lake Mercer, race times were moved up significantly. Despite a 7:12 a.m. start, the Lady Vol first varsity eight clocked a time of 6:07.532 to place second in a loaded AB semifinal featuring four top-10 boats. Tennessee crossed the line behind only No. 5 Yale and was over two seconds faster than No. 8 Brown. The 1V8's top-three finish advanced it to Sunday's grand final.
In the first varsity four AB semifinal, Tennessee (7:04.461) finished third—behind No. 2 Texas and No. 1 Stanford—in a loaded field that featured four of the nation's top-six teams. Tennessee's 1V4 will race in Sunday's NCAA grand final for the second consecutive season.
Tennessee's 2V8 crew (6:21.368) posted a fourth-place effort in its AB semifinal, just missing out on the top-three cut needed to reach the grand final. It finished behind a trio of top-10 teams, including No. 1 Stanford and No. 2 Texas. The crew will compete in the lower final Sunday.
