#10 Lady Vols Drop 4-2 Decision Against #2 Texas A&M In NCAA Championship Quarterfinals

WACO, T.X. – The 10th-seeded Tennessee women's tennis team could not overcome No. 2 Texas A&M, falling 4-2 in a four-hour battle during the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Women's NCAA Team Championship on Thursday evening at Hurd Tennis Center.
The Lady Vols (20-8) powered back from dropping a match on court one to secure the doubles advantage against Texas A&M (29-3). The No. 30-ranked pairing of Leyla Britez Risso and Catherine Aulia dropped a 0-6 result against Mary Stoiana and Mia Kupres. Maeve Thornton and Vanesa Suarez notched a 6-1 victory against Lucciana Perez and Nicole Khirin. The No. 74-ranked duo of Saray Yli-Piipari and Elza Tomase claimed the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph versus Lexington Reed and Daria Smetannikov.
Despite taking the doubles point, Tennessee could never find its rhythm in singles. No. 41 Aulia came up short against No. 13 Nicole Khirin, falling 2-6, 2-6, making the score 1-1. No. 7 Tomase fell to No. 1 Mary Stoiana, 5-7, 2-6, to put the Aggies ahead by one point. Yli-Piipari dropped a three-set thriller to Lexington Reed, 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, putting Texas A&M ahead, 3-1.
Suarez was the lone Lady Vol to post a singles win, fending off No. 51 Lucciana Perez, 6-3, 7-5.
No. 66 Britez Risso dropped a 6-3, 6-7(6), 4-6 decision to No. 67 Mia Kupres for the Aggies to clinch the match.
