Strahm Sets Freshman Pole Vault Record At Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lady Vol rookie Mya Strahm now holds Tennessee's indoor and outdoor freshman records in the women's pole vault, the latter being established on Saturday with her clearance of 4.26 meters (13-11.75) at the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky.
Strahm's mark established a new outdoor season-best and ranks behind teammate Sarah Schmitt as the No. 2 outdoor pole vault performer in school history. Of note, Schmitt was UT's top finisher on Saturday with a mark of 4.36m (14-3.5) that finished third at the meet.
True freshman Joel Gates wrapped up the meet for Tennessee with a victory in the men's open discus throw, launching a lifetime-best distance of 50.12 meters (164-5) to finish first overall. It was UT's fourth event crown of the weekend.
