Tomase and Aulia Named First Team All-SEC
April 23, 2025 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee women's tennis standouts Elza Tomase and Catherine Aulia earned First Team All-SEC accolades, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
"What an honor for Catherine and Elza to be named to the All-SEC first team," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "Our conference is so tough, for them to achieve the success they have had at No. 1 and 2 in the lineup speaks volumes to the hard work and dedication they have to their tennis. I'm very proud of them!"
One of the most decorated players in program history, Tomase, a first-team honoree, has cemented herself as one of the best players in the country, competing atop the singles lineup in her final season as a Lady Vol. The Liepaja, Latvia, native becomes the third player in program history to be a four-time All-SEC honoree; she is a two-time first-team selectee and a two-time second-team designee. Throughout her singles career, Tomase has garnered 96 singles wins, placing 10th on the all-time singles list. She is currently ranked No. 6 nationally in singles and is a part of four ranked doubles pairings, including her highest at No. 44 in doubles with partner Maeve Thornton.
This season, Tomase has fended off eight ranked singles foes and three ranked pairs in doubles, including a six-match winning streak to start the dual season. Tomase earned SEC Player of the Week honors on Jan. 29, 2025. Her highest-ranked singles triumph came against No. 3 DJ Bennett in a 6-0, 6-1 standout performance on Senior Day. Tomase's highest-ranked doubles takedown with Elim Yan took down Texas Tech's No. 15 pair of Bachir/Jeromin, 6-1.
Aulia, also a first-team choice, collected All-SEC honors for the second consecutive year and the second time in her career, after being named a second-team pick during the 2024 season. The Rosebery, Australia, native is ranked No. 42 in singles and No. 30 in doubles alongside Leyla Britez Risso. Aulia was also named to the 2025 SEC community service team earlier this season.
The junior's highest-ranked victory came over No. 17 Julia Garcia Ruiz from Oklahoma in a 6-4, 6-7(6), 7-4 affair, clinching the match in 4-3 fashion for the Lady Vols. The Rosebery, Australia, native has found success with doubles partner Britez Risso all season. Aulia picked up her 50th-career doubles win in a 6-2 victory over Arkansas's No. 82 Koskel/O'Donnell. Together, Aulia and Britez Risso's highest-ranked takedown came against Vanderbilt's No. 14 Celia-Belle Mohr and Sophia Webster, 7-5.
