Cruz Tabbed to SEC All-Tournament Team

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Tennessee men's tennis senior Ian Cruz has been named to the SEC All-Tournament Team, the conference announced Sunday.

Cruz went a perfect 3-0 during the SEC Tournament in singles play at the No. 6 spot, earning a pair of straight-set victories and one three-set back-and-forth triumph.

The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, native got things started with a 6-4, 6-4 showing against Alabama's Carlos Gimenez Perez before following that up with a7-6, 2-6, 6-3 triumph over Texas A&M Giulio Perego. He rounded things off with a victory versus Evan Burnett of Texas, 6-1, 6-1.

In all three matches the Vols played in Columbia, Cruz was the first singles winner for UT each time, providing a spurt of momentum that helped Tennessee make a run to its sixth straight SEC Tournament Semifinal.

This year, he has totaled a 22-10 overall singles record, including an 18-5 mark in dual matches. Cruz has won his past five singles showdowns and is 8-2 in his last 10 completed matches.

Cruz and the Vols await their NCAA Tournament draw in the selection show, airing April 28 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
